Good Housekeeping Magazine readers with Lynn Faulds Wood and Antony Worrall Thompson at a Big Green Lunch hosted by the Watercress Alliance

Readers from Good Housekeeping Magazine are pictured at one of the Big Green Lunches hosted by The Watercress Alliance, to help raise awareness and funds for Lynn’s Bowel Cancer Campaign. Guests of honour were TV presenter and bowel cancer survivor Lynn Faulds Wood and Antony Worrall Thompson.

Antony said: “Watercress is a fabulous superfood; I use it regularly, as its distinctive peppery flavour suits a variety of different dishes, from meat, fish and stir fries to soups and salads.” Antony also developed some tasty watercress recipes to inspire fundraisers with ideas for their own lunches.

Lynn Faulds Wood said: “We were delighted when the watercress farmers came to us wanting to help raise funds and awareness for our charity. Watercress is delicious but also incredibly good for the body, with research showing it can increase the body’s potential to resist carcinogenic agents. The Big Green Lunch helped raise awareness for bowel cancer and also encouraged people to have some fun and enjoy some tasty watercress dishes.”

Watercress producers Bourne Salads, in Lincolnshire, and The Watercress Company, in Dorset, got behind the event and held their own Big Green Lunches for staff.

Watercress, a natural superfood, was the perfect partner for this fundraising activity.  A two-year research project recently completed by The University of Ulster, demonstrates that watercress could play an important role in the fight against cancer.

Bowel Cancer is the second commonest cancer which kills people in the UK, causing more deaths every year than breast and cervical cancer put together.

Around 35,000 people will be diagnosed with bowel cancer this year. But the good news is, it is one of the most curable cancers you can get if it is caught early enough. Thousands of lives could be saved in the UK every year, if only we knew more about bowel cancer. For more information on Lynn’s Bowel Cancer campaign, visit her site www.bowelcancer.tv.
